VERA fans have been left heartbroken over a beloved character’s final scene – as the actor leaves the ITV show.
Earlier last year, fans of the series were left gutted when the final two episodes of series 11 weren’t broadcasted on the channel.
Production for the Brenda Blethyn series was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, meaning bosses were forced to spread out when the episodes would air.
The first two instalments were shown in 2021, followed by the second two which aired in January this year.
However, fans expected the final two episodes to be shown shortly after, but they were replaced with Good Karma Hospital instead.
Dr Malcolm Donahue played by the actor, Paul Haye starred in his final ever scene on Sunday.
Paul was involved in an on-screen argument with Brenda Blethyn during the latest episode of Vera.
Brenda confirmed the news of Paul’s departure, earlier this month, as she shared: “Paul is one of the most positive people I know. No matter what the circumstances he’ll find something positive to say. There was total respect between Vera and Malcolm along with some very dry humour from him.
“The relationship between Vera and Malcolm has been interesting to play.”
Fans were left devastated at the news of the actor leaving the show – as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One wrote: “We don’t want Malcolm to go.”
Another wrote: “Can’t believe Malcolm is going like this!”
A third added: “Don’t let Malcolm go Vera”
A fourth complained: “The show will not be the same without Malcolm.”
A fifth chimed in: “Malcolm will be terribly missed!”
Paul Kaye joined the team in series nine of the crime drama.
Paul plays a very precise pathologist who has worked with Vera in the past, but the two were unable to get along.
However, the pair seem to have put their differences aside and are now finally establishing a grudging respect for one another.
Vera’s season 12’s airs every Sunday night at 9pm on ITV.
