Half-Filipina actress Vanessa Hudgens is coming to the Philippines for her new travel documentary. The film will showcase her first visit to her mother’s hometown and highlight her family history and Filipino heritage, as well as her journey to becoming a prominent global celebrity.
She will be joined by her mother, Gina Guangco, and sister, Stella Hudgens throughout the journey, with shooting set to begin in the cities of Palawan and Manila later this month.
Hudgens had previously expressed her admiration for her mother’s life story, who immigrated to the United States at the age of 25. “I feel like ours is such a relatable story to so many women all over the world,” the actress says. “The more that we can share, the more we can lift each other up.”
The upcoming documentary, which is currently unnamed, will be produced by TEN17P studio and directed by Paul Soriano, the same director who also directed Manny Pacquiao’s biopic ‘Kid Kulafu’ and ‘Mañanita’ a competition entry at the 2019 Tokyo International Film Festival, and produced ‘Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery’, which won a special film award at the Berlin International Film Festival, and ‘Transit’ which was the Philippines’ entry in the Best International Film Category for the 86th Academy Awards.
“We are honored to work with Vanessa for this film project,” says Paul Soriano. “It’s inspiring to note that with everything she has achieved in life, she wants to discover her Filipino roots and pay homage to her mother’s country. Hopefully, this opens doors for many more collaborations to come.”
