UP board results 2021: 99.5% class 10 students, 97.9% class 12 students pass – Times of India

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) announced the much-awaited class 10 and 12 results on Saturday. While the pass percentage of class 10 rose to 99.53%, increasing by a whopping 16.2%, from last year’s 83.31%, the pass percentage of class 12 too soared to 97.88%, an increase of 23.3% from 74.6% last year. In the absence of the examinations this year, there will be no merit this time.

The results were based on the new tabulation method after the UP government cancelled the exams owing to a surge in Covid-19 infected cases. For (class 12) students, the board considered 50% marks obtained in class 10, then 40% in class 11 and the remaining 10% obtained by students in the pre-board examination of class 12. Likewise for class 10 students, 50% marks were calculated on the basis of total marks obtained in class 9 and 50% of marks scored in class 10 pre-board.

As many as 29.9 lakh candidates had registered for class 10 exams of which 29.8 lakh were declared pass. In class 12, 25.5 lakh candidates were declared successful out of 26.1 lakh who had registered. Among 29.8 lakh who passed class 10 exams, 82,238 students were given promotion without any marks. These students said officials were those who were passed due to ‘doubtful’ situations. Likewise, in class 12 62,506 students out of 25.5 lakh were promoted but were not given any marks as these were cases of doubt.
As per the communique from UPSEB, students who failed to secure minimum pass marks in theory subjects during the tabulation exercise, and those whose scores of annual examinations of class 9 and 11, and marks of pre-boards of class 10 and 12 were unavailable were given promotion in a uniform manner.

“These students had to be promoted because the Board didn’t have any data of such students. This was most likely because their schools conducted no exams where students could appear,” said a senior official.

The result shows more girls passed the exams in both class 10 and 12. While in class 10, 99.52% boys passed the exams as against 99.55% girls. In class 12, 98.4% girls cleared the exams as against 97.47% boys.

Stream wise for class 12, 97.92% students who had humanities were declared pass followed by 97.88% students with science stream. As high as 97.22% students belonging to commerce stream were declared pass.
