The current UK heat is a far cry from the cold month of June we are used to, so many Britons may decide to stay at home this summer rather than go abroad.
The staycation, which became the norm during the pandemic, can be just as sunny and fun-filled as going international – not to mention less stressful and much cheaper.
Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the best of Britain’s beaches, and why not try a seaside town you haven’t sampled before?
TikTok creator and travel enthusiast @lotteboo3 took to the popular sharing platform to share an “underrated” beachy gem.
For those who have exhausted Bournemouth, Torquay, Brighton and Blackpool, this travel lover suggested Southwold.

Southwold is a “classic seaside town” located in Suffolk, boasting all the things Brits love about staycations.
Southwold is home to two beaches, Southwold Pier Beach to the north and Southwold Denes Beach to the south.
There are cute, multi-coloured beach huts lined up, pops of butter yellows, whites and blues along the sand.
The TikTok creator snapped a video of an “award-winning bakery”, filled with sausage rolls, gingerbread men, croissants and pastries galore.
She showed viewers a “cute lighthouse” – a great backdrop for holiday photographs – and a gorgeous pier where holidaymakers can add their own plaques.
The official website for Southwold Pier includes a Pier Plaque Creator, where visitors can personalise their own plaque for a “great gift, a wonderful surprise or a memento of your visit”.
Staycationers can spend their days wandering around “quaint” streets brimming with colourful houses, browsing independent shops and enjoying “classic seaside treats” like ice cream.
@lotteboo3 gained lots of attention for her TikTok, with almost 32,000 liking the video and a further 3,200 saving it. More than 1,000 viewers have shared it to a friend, possibly already planning their next stay.
Lovers of Southwold flocked to the comments section to praise the “underrated” holiday destination.
@Goodgriefisthatthetime said: “Worked at scores of seaside towns all over the UK. By far the cleanest, well looked after.”
Laura Marsh added: “We live down the road from Southwold, definitely one of our happy places. Great beer and fish and chips.”
Charlie Raynsford also called it her “happy place”, while Bethany said, “I absolutely love it here I go every year, it’s like a second home”.
Caitlin Harvey commented: “Worked here for six years. Can’t deny that it’s actually a lovely place to visit.”
