Looking younger may have a lot to do with skincare, diet, and physical activity, but a bad haircut can diminish even the best of complexions or toned physiques.
Hair Stylist Josie Gould spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about how women can look younger easily by changing their hair.
For mature ladies, choosing the right cut and colour is key, as these components can “affect your appearance majorly”.
Josie stated: “When it comes to choosing your haircut and colour, there are some things you must consider.
“If you’re aiming to make yourself look younger and still keep up with the latest trends, there are some haircuts that you should consider and also some to avoid.”

She continued: “Long hair can be very ageing, unfortunately, due to your hair tending to thin out and lose its pigmentation as you get older.
“Alternatively, going too short can also be ageing as this will draw attention to every line and wrinkle on your face.”
A shorter style with some “soft subtle framing around the face” will “definitely help make you look younger”.
This will give the hair more bounce and volume, make the face look smaller, and “soften out harsher lines and wrinkles”.

However, it is the way you style your short hair that is key, rather than the haircut itself.
Josie suggested: “If you opt for a choppy, short haircut, you can style it with a wax or putty for a texturised, trendy style as this will knock off the years.”
It works because wax or putty adds bulk and body to the hair, elevating a potentially drab and dull look.
In addition to length, cut and style, colour is pretty crucial when it comes to making a face look younger or older.

Regardless of age, Josie advised: “If you wish to hide your greys, going for a subtly highlighted colour will help.”
As your greys start to grow out, having lots of fine highlights will help hide them as the colour grows out, giving you more of a salt-and-pepper look.
Josie continued: “Avoiding bright fashion shades will help keep you looking younger as going bright and vibrant may attract attention to any problem areas you may have, such as thinning hair.
“Going for a natural colour is much less ageing. If you have the right hair cut, and colour and you style it correctly you will look 10 years younger and you will find the upkeep a lot easier!”
