UFC fighters celebrate in back of an ambulance
UFC champion Max Holloway made history in a fight that had mixed martial arts fans picking their jaws up off the floor.
Holloway beat Yair Rodriguez by unanimous decision, and in the process became the first fighter in UFC history to register 3000 total strikes landed in his career.
Holloway is also the only fighter in the competition’s history to never get knocked down in at least 25 fights.

The 29-year-old puncher was full of praise for his opponent post-fight. Rodriguez has not fought professionally in two years, but helped produce what many fans were calling the fight of the year.
It came only a week after what was previously regarded as fight of the year, between Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler.
“Insane,” UFC president Dana White said of the fight.
“It’s one of the best fights I’ve ever seen.”
Both fighters were taken to hospital and could not attend the post-fight press conference.
As Rodriguez was lying in the back of his ambulance, Holloway exited the stadium and walked over to him, and got into the back of the vehicle to hug and celebrate their epic bout.
Fans took to Twitter to laud both fighters for the performance.
