Tyson Fury fans call for knighthood after brutal Deontay Wilder victory

The Saturday night showdown has been dubbed one of the best fights in recent memory, with both boxers giving everything they had in front of an enthralled crowd at the MGM Grand and millions of viewers around the world.

After a fast start from Wilder, Fury looked to be in major trouble on more than one occasion but showed remarkable resilience to withstand the barrage the Bronze Bomber was coming at him with.

He was knocked down twice in the fourth round and it looked like had been saved by the bell, though the Briton came back roaring and piled on the pressure as both began to tire.

But Fury had more in the tank than his opponent, and bided his time while Wilder continued to swing.

The American was knocked down in the 10th, giving Fury more of an advantage on the judge’s scorecards, but in the end they weren’t needed as Fury finished the job in the next round.

The 33-year-old retained his WBC and The Ring titles, and has taken a huge step towards being given a shot at becoming the undisputed champion.

“I don’t know Tyson Fury personally – he might be a horrid man, he might be the loveliest man on the planet – but all you can do is with what you can see in his public persona.

“What he has been like, outside the ring as well as inside the ring, has been fantastic.

“We’ve all got a past. In fact especially boxing more than most sports, you’ve got people who have come from real bad pasts and done really bad things, and turned their life around. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Isn’t that a good thing?”
