TWITTER stopped working today in a mysterious outage affecting tens of thousands of users – and possibly many more.
The bizarre website failure locked users out of the app completely – but is now fixed.
Frustrated Twitter users were presented with a mysterious error code that blocked all access to the website for around an hour.
When attempting to log on to Twitter, users received the following notice:
“{“errors”:[{“message”:”Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint, please see https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-api for more information”,”code”:467}]}”
Tens of thousands of users reported problems with the website on online outage tracker Down Detector.
The Twitter outage issue that affected the website appeared to be global, with thousands of complaints flooding in from the US, UK and beyond.
However the app remained mostly operational – although URL links weren’t loading when clicked.
Twitter issued the following statement: “Some parts of Twitter may not be working as expected right now.
“We made an internal change that had some unintended consequences.
“We’re working on this now and will share an update when it’s fixed.”
Billionaire Twitter owner Elon Musk also tweeted: “This platform is so brittle (sigh). Will be fixed shortly.”
One user on Down Detector wrote: “That’s cool. I didn’t want to read Twitter anyway. It’s not like I’m sitting here hitting F5 repeatedly.”
Another frustrated Twitter fan said: “Glad we all have a new home here now that Twitter is bye bye.”
And one locked-out Twitterer joked: “Anyone scrolling through TikTok now?”
The outage comes just days after a separate Twitter outage left thousands with a broken feed.
Twitter fans were unable to get their main Twitter feeds to load, and branded it “a mess.”
It all comes after reports that Elon Musk is preparing to fire another 200 members of staff in his latest cost cutting exercise at Twitter.
The company has yet to officially say what was behind the outage.
Just a few weeks ago people were left unable to tweet on the site due to another problem.
Users reported receiving a weird message saying they were “over the daily limit for sending Tweets.”
Direct Messages and notifications were also affected.
Twitter is one of the world’s biggest social media networks.
It launched back in 2006 and has since ballooned to serve as many as 368million daily active users.
The Twitter business was snapped up by Tesla boss Elon Musk on October 27, 2022 for $44billion.
Musk is now heavily involved in Twitter’s operations.
