Transform Learning shortlisted for WISE Awards – Times of India
Each year, the WISE Awards celebrate innovative solutions from across the world that address the most urgent educational challenges. The WISE Awards pre-jury select the finalists based on their innovative character, positive contribution to learning, and potential for scalability and adaptability.
“We are honoured to be selected as a finalist for the WISE Awards. Transform Learning is a reflection of our commitment to transforming secondary education in India, and we look forward to continuing our work to create a more effective, inclusive and equitable education system in line with the country’s own policy focus and the SDGs”. Pankaj Vinayak Sharma, CEO – Transform Schools
Transform Learning is a targeted instruction learning programme aimed at improving student transition and retention in secondary classes in Indian government schools. The programme is delivered through a state’s existing education ecosystem in close collaboration with its functionaries.
The programme has been in use in six states, and has impacted 6.4M students between the academic years of 2019-2021. With the recent close of the academic year 2022, the programme has reached 9.1M students cumulatively.
The programme has been evaluated by J-PAL affiliated researchers, through an randomised control trial in Odisha where it powers the Government’s Utkarsh programme and the findings were truly powerful. In just 50 hours of targeted instruction, the programme added up to 1.5 years of additional learning for participating secondary school students. The programme has successfully improved the quality of teaching-learning in the classroom, as well as the State’s capacity to implement and manage at-scale learning enhancement programmes.
“Secondary education is a critical juncture in a student’s life and it is essential that they are assured of a high quality learning which will support and enrich their lives. Transform Learning’s impact year on year, shows us that educational challenges in India are tractable, even more so when working with the system. We believe that our work will inspire more policy makers, funders and partners to join us and focus on the secondary space.” Shraddha Jha, associate director, Transform Schools, People For Action.
