Tottenham have made a stunning bid for Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez this week – although, contrary to English reports that the offer was around £60million, Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport claim the offer could reach a potential £80.5m (€95m).
New Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has earmarked the prolific Argentine as his main transfer target, following a sensational campaign last season as Inter claimed the Serie A title for the first time in 11 years.
Alongside Romelu Lukaku, Martinez scored 17 goals in 38 league games to bring Antonio Conte’s men the title, cruising to the league by a vast 12-point gap ahead of city rivals AC Milan.
However, despite their unrivalled success, panic has set in at the San Siro.

Spurs do face competition for Martinez from north London rivals Arsenal, who they beat 1-0 in a friendly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
The Gunners are reportedly looking for a younger striker given their talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has turned 32 – with Martinez said to be their key target.
Spurs have spent around £63m this summer already on the signings of Cristian Romero and Bryan Gil; however, having sold Toby Alderweireld and Juan Foyth for a combined fee of £25m, there is still some money left in the tank to sign Martinez.
Kane has been linked with Man City for a fee of £150m throughout the summer, but it is believed Nuno would like the pair to play together up front, with Son Heung-min set to take up a wide role.
Yet, if Kane is to depart for Manchester, it will give Nuno the funds required to have a large-scale rebuild of the side he took over just five weeks ago.
Spurs host Manchester City at home on Sunday, in their first Premier League game with a full crowd since March 2020.
