Tom Cruise took over the 75th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday as he made a grand entry via a helicopter. His arrival for the Top Gun: Maverick premiere was marked by fighter jets in the sky. Needless to say, he was the star attraction of the day. The actor was left teary-eyed as he witnessed the reaction to the film’s screening – a six minutes-long standing ovation from the audience.
As per reports in the Hollywood Reporter, the film’s cast entered while jets expelled coloured smoke to denote the French flag. To make the day even more special, Tom Cruise was honoured with the prestigious Palme d’Or award at the film event. The honorary award, given for his lifelong contribution to cinema and culture, was a surprise ahead of the film’s screening. Joining Cruise on the red carpet were his Top Gun: Maverick co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller and Glen Powell. The film’s director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were also present.
The actor signed autographs and posed for pictures with the Top Gun: Maverick team ahead of the screening.
The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival also has an impressive showing of Indian celebrities. Among those gracing the red carpet are Deepika Padukone who is also serving as a member of the competition jury, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Pooja Hegde, AR Rahman, R Madhavan and more.
