Tina Turner’s The Best performed by Welsh Guards in her honour

The Queen of Rock and Roll died at home in Switzerland at the age of 83 after years of illness.

Tina Turner leaves behind an incredible legacy, first with her ex-husband Ike Turner and then with an unprecedented comeback in the 1980s.

Aged 44 she was the oldest solo artist to hit the top of the Hot 100 with What’s Love Got To Do With It.

Success continued with the likes of Better Be Good To Me, Private Dancer and her James Bond theme GoldenEye.

In 1989 she released a cover version of Bonnie Tyler’s The Best, which became an international chart hit and reached Platinum certification in the UK.

Brits clearly love (Simply) The Best given that the Welsh Guards Band have performed a rendition of the classic song in Turner’s honour.

The regimental musicians alongside the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards Corps of Drums played the song at the gates of Buckingham Palace today.

This was during the Changing of the Guard, which takes place in the forecourt of The King’s residence at 11am for around 30 minutes.

According to Forces.net, “It is a ceremony that represents a formal handover of responsibilities, from the soldiers who were on duty at the Palace, known as the Old Guard’, with the New Guard who arrive after marching from Wellington Barracks.”

Turner’s fans were in awe of the sight, commenting on social media: “Class act! What a lovely tribute to the Queen of Rock n Roll!” Another added: “This is fab! I love our crazy country.”
