Charlie and Chocolate Factory prequel Wonka’s star Timothee Chalamet has shared first look at his character. Chalamet plays the younger version of Willy Wonka in the upcoming movie.
In the image, Chalamet can be seen wearing a top hat and a coat. The star has shared another image that shows his cane with a wrapped present on top. The first look comes just days after Warner Bros. announced the full cast of the movie and revealed that the project has started filming. Along with Chalamet, Wonka cast features Keegan Michael-Key, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman, Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, Simon Farnaby, Tom Davis, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Sally Hawkins, Calah Lane, Paterson Joseph, Colin O’Brien, Matt Lucas, Rakhee Thakrar, Natasha Rothwell, and Ellie White. Chalamet will be the third actor to play Willy Wonka after Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp.
Wonka will be directed by Paddington director Paul King. The movie will focus on the early years of Willy Wonka before he opened his famous chocolate factory. King has co-written the screenplay alongside Farnaby. Wonka is set to release on March 17, 2023.
Netflix is reportedly acquiring rights to Roald Dahl’s written catalog that features Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and James and the Giant Peach. The streaming platform will most likely make movies, series, as well as animated shows based on Dahl’s work. Netflix is already producing a new adaptation of Matilda, which was previously made in 1996 and directed by Danny DeVito.
