Timo Werner takes dig at Chelsea tactics after goal for Germany

TIMO WERNER has admitted that Germany’s tactics suit him better than Thomas Tuchel’s at Chelsea.

The goal-shy forward netted a rare effort against Israel yesterday as Hansi Flick’s side ran out 2-0 winners.

Werner has surprisingly scored six goals in his last six caps – compared to none in his last eight Premier League outings for Chelsea.

Asked about this quirk, the former RB Leipzig ace said: “There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here.

“Maybe the one at the national team suits me better.

“Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals.

“I feel very comfortable here.”

Werner has scored seven times in 28 appearances for Chelsea this season, with only one goal coming in the Prem.

The £48million forward has fallen down the pecking order at the Bridge, and could depart this summer.

Borussia Dortmund have shown an interest, although his £200k-a-week wages could prove prohibitive.

Werner’s fellow Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has also struggled in Tuchel’s system this season.

The £97.5m Belgian has largely found himself stuck behind Kai Havertz in the pecking order in recent weeks, and has scored five Prem goals in 19 appearances since his return to West London.

Lukaku, 28, infamously touched the ball just seven times against Crystal Palace in February – a record low tally in the Premier League.
