Survey data collected from 2,000 children in the US
To provide such a conclusion, the online survey collected responses from 2,000 children aged 2 to 12 in the US. This data helped PARK to better understand trends in young audiences’ content consumption. The survey will also improve how to engage with these kids across media platforms.
When asked about their most recent content consumption, 86% of kids said YouTube, while 63% mentioned video on demand. Apart from this, 50% of kids cited gaming and only 38% said TikTok.
Moreover, the report also added that half of the kids who watch YouTube are aware of YouTube Shorts. Nearly 20% of the kids also confirmed to have seen YouTube Shorts Ads while watching.
As per the report, 27% of kids also noted that they see the best commercials on YouTube, while 10% mentioned TikTok. The report also mentioned that 43% of kids preferred YouTube over all other social media apps, while only 21% chose TikTok.
Apart from this, the report also showed 49% of parents worry about their kids using TikTok, while just 34% are concerned about YouTube.
UK campaigner accuses YouTube of collecting kids’ data
In March, a UK campaigner named Duncan McCann filed an official complaint with the ICO against YouTube. McCann accused the popular video streaming platform of collecting data about the activities of kids on the site. The campaigner claimed that YouTube is collecting data from the videos that are watched by children. This data includes the location of the kids and the device on which they are watching the content.
