TikTok reveals ultimate music mistake
It seems hard to believe anyone could not know this song that has had more than two billion plays. But there is at least one person.
For a song that has had nearly two billion plays across streaming platforms, it’s hard to believe anyone doesn’t know Mr Brightside by The Killers.
But this TikTok videos shows there is at least one person who doesn’t know the iconic single from the Las Vegas band’s debut album Hot Fuss in 2004.
As people dance and sing along, the shot pans to one lonely punter in the corner frantically trying to find out the name of the song on Shazam.
Of course, it might be set up and the TikTok is just to prove that everyone under 40 does know the song.
Mr Brightside has become the band’s anthem, and one they still play at all gigs.
When they last toured Australia in 2018, they told news.com.au the song had taken on a life of its own.
“It’s like happy birthday now,” drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr joked.
Singer Brandon Flowers added: “Something just happened over the last five years that we don’t really have an explanation for and that song has just grown.”
In 2015 Flowers said: “I never get bored of singing it.”
Next year The Killers return to Australia and New Zealand for a nine-date tour to promote their 2020 album Imploding The Mirage.
They were originally meant to tour last year but Covid-19 put an end to all that. So in the downtime The Killers recorded and released another album Pressure Machine.
The band – led by frontman Brandon Flowers – have always had strong links to Australia.
During their last tour in 2018, they covered Men At Work, The Vines, INXS and Crowded House.
In 2017 they played the AFL Grand Final and Richmond captain Jack Riewoldt famously came on stage during Mr Brightside after his team had won the premiership.
