This is the new “$1 billion” brand from Samsung in India – Times of India

Samsung has expanded its M-series smartphone portfolio in India today with the launch of Galaxy M13 and Galaxy M13 5G. The duo are ‘entry-level additions’ to the company’s M-Series 2022 line-up, which includes Galaxy M53 and Galaxy M33. The all-new Galaxy M13 5G is priced at Rs 13,999 for 4GB+64GB variant and Rs 15,999 for 6GB+128GB variant; while Galaxy M13 is available for Rs 11,999 for 4GB+64GB variant and Rs 13,999 for 6GB+128GB variant.

Samsung is betting big on M-series smartphones that made their debut in India in 2019. “M Series will be a $1 billion brand in calendar year 2022,” said Aditya Babbar, senior director and head marketing at Samsung Mobiles while talking to The Times of India-Gadgets Now. This means that the company has set a target of $1 billion (in revenue) this year coming from the M series phones.

Babbar is confident about the new features of the new M-series phones being received well by buyers. “Samsung Galaxy M13 and Galaxy M13 5G come with segment-first innovation of auto-data switching.” Auto-data switching is a feature wherein a phone automatically switches data from one SIM to another. This means that if the Wi-Fi or primary SIM connection is weak, the phone will automatically switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. Or the primary data is shifted from the SIM to the data of the second secondary SIM. The other “segment-leading” features in the Galaxy M13 series include 12GB RAM with RAM Plus and 6000mAh battery. These specifications and features so far have been available in the premium and affordable premium phones from the company. “We are democratising these features by bringing them to affordable M-series phones,” said Babbar.

Talking more numbers, Babbar said “We have 42 million happy M-Series consumers since 2019.” He added that the first six months of the year have been “extremely good” for Samsung in India across categories.

“Samsung increased overall value market share to 22.6% during January to May 2022 vis-à-vis 20% recorded in the same period a year ago,” said Babbar quoting a recent Counterpoint Research report. As per the report, the market share of smartphones priced between Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 grew to 26.9% in 2022 (January to May) from 21.4% during the same period in 2021.
