During the penultimate episode, the Sporty Spice singer couldn’t help but notice the number of interactive posters that had her name on them, which sparked a conversation about her time in the girl band with coaches Danny Jones, Pixie Lott, and will.i.am.
‘You’ve got to realise like there’s big, and there’s super big, and then there’s Spice Girls big,’ said will.i.am.
‘Oh my gosh,’ replied Pixie. ‘Honestly, when we was at school, we would all be the Spice Girls. I would be Sporty Spice and the Spice Girls was the first-ever show that I went to.’
The Stop hitmaker, real name Melanie Chisholm, was moved by the admiration but stopped herself from getting too ’emotional,’ before she revealed how ‘proud’ she was of her achievements.
‘It’s incredible,’ she said. ‘I meet so many people that the Spice Girls was their first ever gig. I think in 2019 when we did the stadium shows.
‘It was that moment when we went “wow, look at this generation of people we inspired” and we felt so proud.’
Fans were also treated to the fab four performing a rendition of the Spice Girls’ 1996 hit Wannabe, after a fan requested for Mel to sing something.
The 47-year-old performer, who replaced singer Paloma Faith on this year’s show, recently teased that the British girl group might reunite on stage again after years of hardship.
In December 2000, members Emma Bunton, Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Geri Horner and Mel C announced they were taking an indefinite hiatus – but insisted they hadn’t broken up for good.
‘Speaking to the girls, we all feel the same and in 2019 when we did the stadium shows, they were so incredible,’ Mel C said to host Lorraine.
‘We feel that after the hardship of the last few years, it would be wonderful if we could get back on staged.
‘Not only for us, but for all our fans out there. It’s our number one priority.’
The ITV singing competition returned for the second set of blind auditions tonight and concluded with all four coaches happy with their full teams.
But with the final only one day away, who will come out on top?
The Voice Kids final airs on Wednesday at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
