However, a new stufy conducted by Betway has looked at the average number of daylight hours, as well as average temperature and rainfall to detemine the best “suntrap” destinations.

And it’s good news for Brits, as the popular Spanish city of Barcelona came in first place.

The study gave the destination 55.4 out of 70, with the study also analysing the number of beaches and tourist attractions to determine the score.

Barcelona is one of the most popular destination in Spain for foreign tourists, with as many as 33million visiting a year.

Not only does the city have it’s own sandy beach, but it is also home to famous attractions including the Sagrada Familia, which dates back to 1882, and Guadi’s Park Guell, one of the largest green spaces in Barcelona.

Even better, it doesn’t cost much to get there – Ryanair has flights from Bristol to Barcelona for just £16.99.

Airlines such as easyJet and British Airways also fly from UK airports to the Spanish city.

A Barcelona insider recently revealed how to avoid looking like a local in the city, as well as how to avoiding the big mistakes which cost you money.

Also ranking highly in the Betway study was Nice (52.5), Valencia (50.4) and Malaga (50.1).

Another study found that Faro in Portugal has the most sunlight hours a day.

Recent research from Club Med has analysed the number of sunlight hours each day, average temperatures, rainfall levels, and sea temperatures.

At the top of the list is Faro in Portugal, which has 11 hours of sunshine every day during the summer and average temperatures of 24C too.

Here are the holiday destinations which are hottest in May, with deals from £261pp.
