The New Daredevil Proves Tony Stark’s Most Impressive Invention Works
In Daredevil #34, Elektra prepares for a showdown with the insane and deadly Bullseye, largely thanks to the technology of Tony Stark.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Daredevil #34, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Even though Elektra Natchios is one of the deadliest assassins in the Marvel Universe, she has had plenty of brushes with death over the years, including multiple experiences with the assassin Bullseye. As a resurgent Bullseye emerges, more murderously ambitious than ever, Elektra must look to Tony Stark for vital support just to stay alive and stay in the fight. Fortunately, the Marvel Universe’s foremost billionaire genius has an impressive trick up his armored sleeve.
After inheriting the mantle of Daredevil while Matt Murdock was serving out a prison sentence for manslaughter, Elektra proved capable of defending Hell’s Kitchen in his stead. From the routine criminals that plagued the residents to a full-on symbiote invasion during the King in Black crossover event, Elektra weathered the storm and kept the Manhattan neighborhood intact. However, when Elektra’s greatest enemy resurfaced, the new Daredevil threw caution to the wind to confront the man who murdered her years ago, only to be ambushed by his newly minted army of clones. Fortunately, in Daredevil #34 (by Chip Zdarsky, Stefano Landini, Marcio Menyz and VC’s Clayton Cowles) the timely assistance of Tony Stark saves Elektra’s life and puts her right back into the fight.
For all intents and purposes, Elektra was mortally wounded while fighting Bullseye and two of his clones on the rooftops of Manhattan, plummeting to the streets below and nearly finished before Iron Man and Spider-Man arrived on the scene to drive the Bullseyes into hiding. From the safety of Stark’s penthouse laboratory, Elektra discovers that Stark’s special nanotechnology has nearly completely healed even her most grievous wounds, with Stark’s business interests leaning into medical technology as revealed in the Iron Man ongoing series. Elektra even notes that Stark’s nanotechnology demonstrates healing capability on par with the supernatural healing powers of The Hand.
The comparison is a particularly impressive one as Elektra has been resurrected from an untimely death on at least two occasions thanks The Hand’s dark magic. After her first showdown with Bullseye resulted in her death, The Hand exhumed Elektra’s body and resurrected her by way of a mystical ritual. Later, while Wolverine was brainwashed by The Hand, Elektra was briefly killed and resurrected to become its leader, only to reveal her death and resurrection was pre-planned so she could dismantle the ninja cult and its burgeoning alliance with Hydra from the inside as she worked undercover for S.H.I.E.L.D. Bullseye would similarly benefit from The Hand’s healing abilities after being killed during the crossover event Shadowland.
Elektra complimenting Stark’s nanotechnology suggests that his recent scientific endeavors have been able to replicate something that could previously only be accomplished through dark magic. While Stark’s nanotechnology hasn’t been seen capable of bringing some back from the grave just yet, Elektra is still ready for a rematch against Bullseye and his clone army again.
With Elektra actively drawing Bullseye out for an epic showdown in the heart of Times Square, it is likely that she may have even more of Iron Man’s arsenal of tricks up her sleeve to even the odds just when the cloned supervillains attack. Regardless, the next confrontation between the crazed assassin and the new Daredevil is sure to be epic.
