The one who tweets the ‘most’
Unlike the man — Barack Obama — he has dethroned, Musk is super active on Twitter. Be it memes, jokes or making Twitter-related announcements, Musk uses the platform freely. Musk now has 133.06 million followers, which puts him ahead of Obama, who has 133.04 million followers. Obama is certainly quite active on Twitter but it’s mainly for professional purposes. Number three and four on the list are global pop stars Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.
Musk, meanwhile, became the owner of Twitter in June 2022. Back then he had close to 100 million followers. Since taking over Twitter, he has made a raft of changes at the social media company. Thousands of employees have been fired, Twitter offices across the world have been vacated, and there are reportedly very few engineers left at the company but Musk has gone about doing things in his way. That’s just the company side of things.
On the site, Twitter Blue were perhaps the two most used words by Musk for months after his acquisition. And true to his word, Twitter’s subscription service is now available across the world and users now have to pay for the verified account blue check mark. Starting April 1, legacy handles will lose the verified account.
Apart from that, Musk has been criticised for bringing back certain banned accounts, including that of Obama’s successor Donald Trump. Musk is also on the lookout for a new CEO but that search has so far proved to be futile as Musk is the one-man show at Twitter. At least publicly.
