The Masked Dancer is back for its second series on ITV, and Onomatopoeia is one of the 12 undercover celebrities strutting their stuff, as judges Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Oti Mabuse and Peter Crouch do their best to guess their identities.
Last week, we saw Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe as the first contestant eliminated, and his mask as Astronaut was taken off.
The series, a spin-off of the ever popular Masked Singer, has bagged itself a primetime Saturday night slot this year after debuting on screens in the summer of 2021 – and you can expect a clash of the titans as it goes head to head with Strictly Come Dancing.
But just who is behind Onomatopoeia’s mask? Here are the clues we’ve been given to their identity so far, and theories about who it might be…
What clues have been given about Onomatopoeia on The Masked Dancer?
- Bring the noise – maybe a musician?
- A team of words – maybe a writer?
- Lots of shots in a library
- Arsenal badge shown
- Loves the crowd of a stadium cheering to get them on their feet
- ‘My body has been considered an anatomically perfect specimen’
- Is success the goal? Possible sports person
- Science kit – possible sci-fi connection
- Kept on their toes in their line of work – with the word ‘horror’ in the background
- They like to start their day ‘right’ with a ‘good brekkie’
- A driver? They’ve learnt to ‘steer their career’
- Has travelled the world
- Walked past a ‘missing donkey’ sign
- Their voice sounded like someone who was used to performing in theatre
- There are lots of links to loving words – maybe an actor?
- There’s reference to canines – are they a dog lover?
Who is Onomatopoeia on The Masked Dancer?
Chris Eubank
With plenty of references to boxing in the VT, could Onomatopoeia be boxing champ Chris Eubank?
But, there are plenty of other sporting stars on viewers’ lips, with the likes of KSI and Nicola Adams also being thrown into the mix – are any of them close?
Tinie Tempah
Davina McCall was convinced the character was rapper Tinie Tempah, do you agree?
He does have plenty of experience with writing songs, as the Big Brother host called him a ‘genius’ with lyrics.
Eric Cantona
The panel are sure there is a football connection, but Jonathan Ross suggested it could be Eric Cantona after the clue that Onomatopoeia ‘puts the Ooh into Ooh La La’.
The French footballer’s chant was ‘Ooh Ahh Cantona’ – so did that give it away?
Ian Wright
What if Onomatopoeia was ‘Wright’ not right?
And there have been plenty of references to football so far.
David Walliams
There have been lots of references to words including images of a library and the name itself, and David is an accomplished children’s author.
David is also an actor and the judges think the dancer could be a performer, as their voice sounds like they’ve been in a theatre production.
