The incredible private European island you can rent from just £75pp a night

TUCKED between mainland Estonia and Muhu Island is a private island you’ve almost certainly never heard of.

The Republic of Viirelaid is a small island nation in the Baltic Sea, and it’s available to rent from £73pp a night.

The 199-acre Viirelaid Island is the second smallest nation in the world, coming second only to the Vatican.

The island is not supported by the EU or neighbouring Estonia, instead, it’s managed entirely by two friends and the community that has gathered around them – with a population of six.

Ninety-four per cent of the island’s income comes from tourism, so it’s open and available to hire all year round.

Viirelaid can be easily accessed by a speedboat in about 10 minutes, and the owners arrange transport from Virtsu or Kuivastu on mainland Estonia.

Once on the island, you’ll find saunas, a swimming pool, and a jacuzzi.

You won’t be short on activities either, with SUP boarding, sunset tours, swimming with seals, orienteering games around the island, volleyball, Zorbing, and more activities.

Gourmet dinners with top chefs from Estonia and Latvia can also be arranged at an extra cost.

The island can accommodate a maximum of 101 people during the summer season.

The accommodation includes 16 bedrooms spread over five detached houses and a glamping village with ten tents.

The main lighthouse was built in 1880 but was recently renovated in 2016.

The lighthouse can sleep up to 29 people with seven bedrooms, three bathrooms and an open-plan kitchen with a fireplace.

The rest of the rooms are in the remaining four houses, including a bunk bed house, a seminar house with five single beds and a sauna suite.

There’s also a bar with a bartender serving classic cocktails and their own Viirelaid’s snaps and beers, which you can only get on the island.

The private hire is available for private or corporate events, weddings, anniversaries and holidays.

The island has plenty of events throughout the year as well, including a ‘fun fest’ with live music, a family day and dinners in the sea.

The island has a 5/5 rating on TripAdvisor, with more than 30 reviews.

Reviewers have described it as the “perfect getaway,” a “real paradise”, and a “place where time stops.”

Bookings don’t have a minimum stay requirement, so you could even hire Viirelaid Island for one night only.

Stays start from £2,193 per night – which works out at just over £75 per person per night when sharing with 29.

You’ll have to contact the owners directly for larger group enquiries of up to 101 people.

And if you’re after a unique accommodation, this Silverstone hotel room overlooks the starting grid, and it costs from £84 – and you can even stay on F1 race days.

You could even hire this UK party house with its own nightclub and games arcade.
