Kieron Pollard smashed 34 from 11 balls and Jordan Thompson took four wickets as London Spirit thrashed Manchester Originals in this year’s first Hundred match at Lord’s.

Pollard hit four sixes in his brief but crucial innings to propel Spirit to 160-6, before Thompson’s four wickets helped bowl out the Originals for just 108.

Having beaten local rivals Oval Invincibles in their opening fixture, London Spirit are now top of the Hundred group table with two wins from two.

Manchester Originals, meanwhile, have lost their first two games and need to turn things around quickly to boost their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.

After losing opener Adam Rossington for a first-ball duck, London Spirit recovered during the powerplay as Zak Crawley and Glenn Maxwell found regular boundaries.

Australia’s Maxwell fell just as he was threatening to explode for 21 but a 54-run partnership between Crawley and Eoin Morgan ensured the momentum remained with the hosts.

Five sixes were hit in the productive third-wicket partnership before England Test opener Crawley fell for 41 and former white-ball captain Morgan holed out for a fluent 37.

Paul Walter’s second wicket of the evening reduced London Spirit to 136-6 with nine deliveries remaining but a late flourish from big-hitting overseas star Pollard took the hosts to 160.

Despite a small boundary on one side of the ground and a star-studded batting line-up, the Manchester Originals chase was over almost as soon as it began.

Jos Buttler could only manage six from 11 and his struggles were emulated by the rest of the team as just one player in Manchester’s top-seven reached double figures.

Yorkshire’s Thompson tore through the top-order – claiming figures of 4-21 from his 20 balls – and Liam Dawson also chipped in with two scalps, dismissing the only Manchester Originals player to offer any resistance; Phil Salt, who made 36.

Manchester Originals’ fate was confirmed when No. 11 Matthew Parkinson chipped Mason Crane to point with two balls remaining as Buttler’s side slipped to a heavy 52-run defeat.

London Spirit will look to maintain their perfect record when they face Southern Brave on Friday, while Manchester Originals will be desperate to secure their first win against Trent Rockets the following day.
