In the series, a group of women come together through wrestling, creating stage personas and seeking funding for their promising new endeavor.

A reboot of the classic Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai sees Johnny Lawrence seeking redemption by reopening the storied, infamous Cobra Kai dojo when he falls on hard times. The move reignites his old rivalry with a now-successful Daniel LaRusso, though Johnny now looks out for the little guy and trains bullied outcasts. The series features karate tournaments as well as the return of legacy characters.

This Netflix docuseries follows high-level college cheerleaders in Corsicana, Texas, led by passionate, hard-driving head cheer coach Monica Aldama. The series showcases immense skill from young athletes, offering a look behind the scenes at the making of champions.

Maybe the best sports show on this list is a recent entry: Amazon Prime Video’s A League of Their Own. The remake of the classic film by Penny Marshall expands the story’s scope, following women forging a path for themselves as professional baseball players in America during World War II. The series focuses on the journeys of both an all-white team and a Black player kept out of the mainstream league, forced to find other ways to play.

This 80s-set drama follows a college student who starts working at a Jewish country club in New Jersey to help pay the bills. While the show is primarily about David’s coming of age, it’s also about his work as a tennis instructor at the club, with the high-class sport setting the stage for his own personal journey.

A spinoff of Canadian cult hit Letterkenny, Shoresy sees hockey player Shoresy and the Sudbury Bulldogs coming dead last in the Triple A-level Northern Ontario Senior Hockey Organization. But Shoresy has a plan. He guarantees his coach that the team won’t lose a single game if he takes over completely. Now, he’s got a team to run in this hilarious sports comedy on Hulu.

A comedy sports show that’s maybe more a sports fandom show, The League follows a die-hard fantasy football league. The series sees a group of friends getting deeper and deeper into their cutthroat rivalry until it starts to spill into the rest of their lives.

This drama miniseries from HBO Max follows the rise of the LA Lakers in the 1980s. It focuses on the relationship between Dr. Jerry Buss and Magic Johnson and offers a look behind the scenes at the glitz and glamor of the time, based on the bestseller Showtime by sports writer Jeff Pearlman.

This docuseries from HBO offers unprecedented access to tennis superstar Serena Williams. Following her pregnancy and family life as well as her astonishing career as one of the all-time sports greats, Being Serena is a chance to see who Williams is on and off the tennis court.

A reunion series of the classic family films starring Emilio Estevez, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers follows a new generation of young hockey players. After failing to join the famous Mighty Ducks, a 12-year-old, with help from his mom, starts a new team of underdogs.

John Stamos stars as a legendary but temperamental college basketball coach who gets fired in this Disney Plus original series. Down on his luck, he takes a coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school. Trying to prove and redeem himself, he works to help the girls become champs but faces some new challenges along the way.

Ted Lasso has become the de facto feel-good streaming show, with a huge fanbase and lots of online discussion. Behind the niceness and positivity, though, there’s quite a bit of depth too. Ted is an American football coach who moves to England too coach a soccer team. He doesn’t really know the sport though, so he has to get up to speed quickly and unite his team in the face of huge obstacles.

This Apple drama follows the world of youth basketball. It focuses on teen players, their families, and coaches, all swept up in an industry full of corruption, where dreams and ambition meet opportunism and business.
