The Adventures Continue With New Batman, Catwoman and Batman Who Laughs Figures
A new set of McFarlane Toys feature Batman and Catwoman with their Animated Series looks, along with a matching version of the Batman Who Laughs.
McFarlane Toys is producing new versions of Batman and Catwoman in their fan-favorite designs from Batman: The Animated Series and its comic book continuation, Batman: The Adventures Continue — and the two Gotham vigilantes are joined by the gleefully horrific Batman Who Laughs.
The 1:12 scale figures, currently available for pre-order on the McFarlane Toys website, feature a cel-shaded paint deco look reminiscent of Bruce Timm’s designs from the show, and range in size from five to six inches tall. Batman is clad in the black and grey outfit that he wore in 1997’s The New Batman Adventures, sometimes considered the final season of the Emmy Award-winning Batman: The Animated Series. Catwoman sports the classic blonde hair and yellow belt design that she had in the cartoon franchise’s first aired episode in 1992, “The Cat and the Claw.” The Batman Who Laughs, on the other hand, has never appeared in animation and features a design inspired by Bruce Timm’s streamlined, blocky art style.
All three figures are bundled under the Batman: The Adventures Continue banner. The comic, written by Paul Dini and Alan Burnett — both producers on Batman: The Animated Series — began publication in April 2020 and has thus far encompassed 24 issues and one holiday special over two “seasons.”
The series picks up directly after The New Batman Adventures came to an end, filling in gaps in the DC Animated Universe timeline prior to the debut of the futuristic Neo-Gotham and Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond. Thus far, a number of characters who never appeared in the cartoon have made their debut in the comic, including Jason Todd, Deathstroke and the Court of Owls.
There is currently no indication on whether or not the Batman Who Laughs will appear in Batman: The Adventures Continue. The chilling villain, created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, first appeared in DC’s Metal event of 2017 and 2018 as the twisted amalgamation of Batman and the Joker from Earth-22. The Batman Who Laughs later met his end in Metal’s follow-up, Death Metal. Prior to his death, however, he managed to usurp Perpetua — the architect of the DC multiverse — and became a thorn in the side of every superhero across the cosmos. Most recently, members of the multiverse-traversing Justice League Incarnate faced off against a genderbent version of the character, dubbed the Batwoman Who Laughs.
McFarlane Toys’ Batman, Catwoman and the Batman Who Laughs are all available for pre-order now, with each figure costing $29.99.
