Teen: Teen Appears For ‘friend’ In Class X Exam, Held | – Times of India

Ludhiana: Division number 8 police arrested a youth who appeared in the Class X examination of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) in place of his friend. The accused was caught red-handed by an employee of the education department within 15 minutes of the exam as the photo of the student displayed on the admit card did not match with the imposter, who is a Class XII student.
The arrested accused has been identified as Abhishek Giri, 19, a resident of Shimlapuri. Police booked his friend Sukhraj Singh, who had sent Abhishek to appear in the exam. PSEB had made an examination center for students of the open school. The Punjabi A exam was scheduled on Friday for Class X, for which at least 375 students appeared.
Examination center superintendent Ravinder Kaur said that the students were accommodated in their seats and the exam started. Immediately afterwards, she started checking admit cards of the students and taking their signatures on the attendance sheet. When she checked the admit card of the accused, she found that the picture on the admit card and the person who appeared in the exam bore no similarity. The admit card had a picture of a youngster wearing a turban but the examinee was not wearing a turban.
Initially, the youngster said he was Sukhraj Singh. However, when questioned hard, he confessed to have appeared in the exam for his friend. The accused identified himself as Abhishek Giri, 19, a student of Class XII. Thereafter, the superintendent lodged a complaint with the police.
Sub-inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO, division number 8 police station, said that during questioning, it was revealed that Abhishek agreed to appear in the exam merely because of his friendship with Sukhraj as he was good in studies. He also said that he was not aware that it was a criminal offence. A case under sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC has been lodged against Giri and Sukhraj. Police are trying to trace Sukhraj. On November 29, 2020, police had nabbed two cousins Kirna Rani of Ferozepur and Asha Rani of Jalalabad, for cheating and conspiracy when both of them reached at the examination Center at Meritorious School to appear in the ETT (elementary teacher training) exam with same roll number. Kirna Rani had come to appear in the ETT exam. Minutes later, another woman came and claimed to be Kirna Rani. Both had the same roll numbers and a copy of the same Aadhaar card. Police were informed and both were allowed to appear in the exam. During questioning, it was found that days before the exam, Kirna had asked her cousin Asha to appear in the exam on her behalf, as Asha was postgraduate while Kirna had cleared Class 12. However, Kirna forgot about it and also came to Ludhiana to appear in the exam.
