Tchia gets an ocean exploration mini-trailer amidst delay news

A glimpse at some gorgeous gameplay while we wait

When Tchia was announced at the Game Awards back in 2020, I immediately added it to my list of beautiful, relaxing games that I’m looking forward to. It’s billed on Steam as a “tropical open-world adventure” which, as someone who loves all things sand and surf, is enough on its own to get me interested in learning more about the game. All of the other fun adventures the game promises, well, those are just icing on the cake.

Unfortunately, the game’s developer Awaceb just announced that Tchia has been delayed to early 2023, so we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer to embark on our tropical adventure. The good news is they did drop off a new mini-feature that highlights a key component of Tchia‘s gameplay: ocean exploration.

The short trailer shows clips of the titular character Tchia sailing around gorgeous tide pools, diving into the water in search of lost treasure, and even different customization options for the boat’s sails and flags. Of all the open-world games I’ve played, Tchia looks to be the most relaxed and easy-going, which we can always use more of in an industry of titles focused so heavily on combat.

The news of the delay may not be ideal, but it does look like Tchia is going to be worth the wait. On top of the ocean exploration portion of the gameplay, we can also look forward to other fun mechanics like transforming into different animals and objects, climbing and gliding around the oceanside cliffs, and strumming on a fully playable ukulele.

We can definitely see the impact of titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey in Tchia, and I personally can’t wait to see what new spin Awaceb puts on gameplay mechanics that we’ve come to know and love.

Tchia will be available in early 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
