‘Taught a lesson’: Kyrgios’ brutal takedown of rival

Aussie tennis firebrand Nick Kyrgios has reignited his feud with long-time sparring partner Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The pair have a rocky relationship, which exploded during last year’s Wimbledon tournament.

Kyrgios won the third-round match on his way to the grand slam final, but was later fined $5872 by the All England Club for obscene language.

Tsitsipas was whacked with a $14,680 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct, after he hit a ball into the crowd. Kyrgios had halted the match and demanded Tsitsipas be disqualified for the incident.

The two players shared an icy handshake at the net after that match and things haven’t thawed much in the meantime.

They united on court for a bizarre doubles showing in Saudi Arabia in December, but a fortnight later Tsitsipas took a swipe at Kyrgios for withdrawn from the United Cup.

Tsitsipas has also accused Kyrgios of being a bully in the past, and on Sunday jumped at the opportunity to once again clip his Aussie rival.

“He was the one who broke our relationship,” Tsitsipas said when asked about Kyrgios.

“I didn’t do anything. In 2022 Wimbledon I was only trying to compete, while he was playing the clown.

“It also depends on how he wakes up each day.”

Upon seeing those comments, Kyrgios took to Twitter to fire back.

“Right… this is the match he hit someone in the crowd (with a ball),” he said.

“Belted another ball out of the stadium and got taught a lesson in front of another full stadium.”

Neither Tsitsipas or Kyrgios have won a grand slam event yet.

Tsitsipas lost the Australian Open final to Novak Djokovic in straight sets last week.
