Swiggy to expand new membership programme to 500 cities

Mumbai: Food delivery platform Swiggy plans to expand its new membership programme ‘Swiggy One’ in 500 cities in the next two weeks. The new membership programme went live in four cities including Lucknow, Pune, Trivandrum and Vijayawada on 19 November.

Swiggy ONE offers unlimited free deliveries from restaurants and its grocery delivery service Instamart. The membership can be availed at Rs 299 for the first 3 months and at Rs 899 for 12 months.

Rival

launched Zomato Pro Plus in August which offers unlimited free deliveries.

The Bengaluru-based company said that in the coming months additional discounts and benefits will be extended to Swiggy’s other offerings including its pick up and drop off service Genie and Meat stores.

“With a mission to deliver unparalleled convenience to consumers, we have launched and grown our offerings across food delivery, express grocery and other offerings. The newly launched Swiggy One programme brings all these convenience offerings under a single membership plan delivering immense financial savings/benefits to regular Swiggy users,” said Anuj Rathi, SVP Revenue and Growth at Swiggy in a statement.

In
an interview with ET in July, Swiggy’s Sriharsha Majety had said that as much as 25% of the company’s revenue was coming from non-food delivery businesses and that the company was going to invest heavily in non-food verticals. Offering discounts has been a key customer acquisition route for both Zomato and Swiggy.

ET reported on September 28 that Swiggy was
in talks to close another financing round at a $10-billion valuation, double that of its previous round, led by US asset manager Invesco, in what is a likely re-rating exercise stoked by Zomato’s market cap.
