Swiggy rolls out ambulance service for delivery partners

Delivery partners can reach the ambulance service instantly by tapping the SOS button on the partner app or through a toll-free number. The current average response time is 12 minutes.

The service is free for delivery partners and their dependents—spouses and two children, who are covered under the insurance provided by Swiggy. Delivery partners can also choose to avail of the ambulance for family members not covered under their insurance at a subsidised cost.

The platform currently has over 300,000 delivery partners across the country.

The company has partnered with Dial4242 Ambulance Services for the initiative. The process will require no documentation; delivery partners only need to confirm their partner ID.

“We are committed to the safety of our delivery partners, and over the years have been investing in products and policies that prioritise their safety and well-being,” Mihir Rajesh Shah, head of operations at Swiggy, told ET. “With ambulance service, we are making sure that our delivery partners have safety and peace of mind, and can get help when they need it the most.”

The service has been launched pan-India after having been piloted in Bengaluru, Delhi, NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata. Dial4242 can dispatch different ambulances such as BLS ambulances, cardiac ambulances, ALS, inter-state ambulances, Covid-19 ambulances, and hearse vans based on the severity of the case.“We have 10,000+ ambulances across 500+ cities in India with varied capabilities and on-ground support to reach the victim in a matter of minutes, saving a precious life,” said Jeetendra Lalwani, co-founder of Dial4242. “The nearest cashless hospital will also be identified for Swiggy’s partners ensuring they get timely treatment.”

The initiative comes a few weeks after a Swiggy delivery partner died after his scooter collided with a car in Noida. Last month, a delivery executive at rival food delivery platform Zomato was also killed after his motorcycle was hit.
