Mario’s upcoming trip to the big screen won’t overstay its welcome, as The Super Mario Bros. Movie will clock in at just over an hour and a half.
According to the Irish Film Classification Office (via ComicBook), The Super Mario Bros. Movie will run 92 minutes and 17 seconds. This brings the Mario movie in line with other recent animated features. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is 1 hour 40 minutes, Minions: The Rise of Gru is 1 hour 30 minutes, and Lightyear is 1 hour 45 minutes.
Animated family movies typically have shorter runtimes than live-action blockbusters. So for us kids-at-heart looking forward to the Mario movie, 90 minutes is a refreshing change of pace from two-to-three hour movies like Avatar: The Way of Water or Avengers: Endgame.
Even with the brisk runtime, the Mario movie appears to be packed full of awesome references for Nintendo fans. In trailers so far, we’ve seen Rainbow Road, 3D World’s Cat Suit, and Smash Bros. references. The posters have been packed full of classic enemies, too. And the most recent ad was an amazing homage to the live-action Mario series.
