Strevens praises Vilhete, Sagaf for efforts in Dagenham & Redbridge win
Vilhete, having returned to action following long-term injury as a substitute against Oldham Athletic a week earlier, made his first start since the September 24 game against Barnet.
And Strevens was impressed with how the 29-year-old performed, before making way for David Longe-King late on.
“[It has been] a massive plus for me and the group that I’ve walked in with Maz being able to train for a few weeks, raring to go and saying ‘gaffer, I’m ready whenever you need me’,” Strevens told the club website.
“We felt with the way they played and what we were going to do, we needed that compactness in midfield and I thought him and Lingy did well to help Sags and Robbo in there.
“The plan was as it got stretched for George [Saunders] to come on and use his pace and directness and Syd [Ibie] as well.
“Really pleased for him because he’s had a bit of time out and he just showed what a good player he is and I knew that anyway.”
The 25-year-old Sagaf, meanwhile, earned plaudits for a hard-working display, despite observing Ramadan.
“Mo is a great lad, a bit like Lingy, anywhere you ask him to play, ask him to play two different positions in two weeks and they’re both like ‘yep, no worries’ and then they will go in there and do that job for you,” added Strevens.
“To be able to do that, fasting and showing those energy levels and endeavour to want to do it as well, I thought Mo and Robbo, being the captain and leading by example the way he was around the pitch the whole 90 minutes.
“We’ve got to look after him now, he looks after himself really well, and prepare to go again Tuesday.”
Having snatched a last-gasp win in Devon thanks to Inih Effiong’s second goal of the game, Daggers make the 292-mile journey north to Gateshead on Tuesday.
They fought back from going 2-0 down in just 12 minutes to earn a 2-2 draw when the sides met at Victoria Road on the opening day of the season.
Gateshead find themselves one point from safety at the moment, with two games in hand on Yeovil, having ended a five-match winless run with a 3-2 success at Aldershot on Saturday.
*Dagenham & Redbridge’s Myles Weston started for Antingua & Barbuda as they beat Guadeloupe 1-0 in a Concacaf Nations League clash, ahead of a home game against Barbados.
And Omar Mussa played in Burundi’s 3-1 defeat against Indonesia in an international friendly, with the two sides set to meet again on Tuesday.
