While the makeup effects department has already revealed that it would take seven hours to transform Jamie into the horrifying monster, the star has divulged that he had an unusual method for playing him.
Sharing just how he’d get into Vecna’s headspace, the actor disclosed: ‘I would take photographs of each victim.
‘I’d print them off, my next victim, and I would cross their eyes out and put them up on my wall. And I’d stare at them.’
Yep, really.
If that wasn’t strange enough, Jamie added that he would isolate himself and do repetitive exercises to get into his character’s ‘resentment’.
‘He already has this belief system that the world is a lie and that it’s unjust,’ he continued to People.
‘And so preparing was about bringing that up and digging that up more, [which meant] a lot of heavy, dark meditation, low-frequency sounds, a lot of saying the same kind of thing over and over again.
‘I would clear my mind and then have these phrases that I would just put in over and over and over again. Walking around late at night. Isolation on my own was always a good thing.’
It seems that Jamie’s creepy portrayal of Vecna’s worked as Millie Bobby Brown recently said that she burst into tears upon seeing him for the first time.
And to be honest, we haven’t fully recovered.
For those of you who can’t remember, Vecna was shrouded in mystery until it was revealed that not only did he have a complex history with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) at the Hawkins Lab, but he was also originally Henry Creel, who went on to become the enigmatic Number One (Jamie Campbell Bower).
Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
