Sting, real name Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, is a worldwide musician, singer, songwriter and actor. He was the lead vocalist of rock band The Police.
Even though his life is filled with glitz and glam now, Sting grew up very far from wealthy.
His family were working-class Geordies: his mother a hairdresser and his father, a milkman, where he grew up in Wallsend.
It was his ambition and drive which landed him his millions, as he had to work hard to acquire his wealth.
The legendary singer somewhat surprisingly cited the Queen Mother as a source of inspiration.
DON’T MISS:
As she visited his home town to launch a ship when he was a little boy, the future star was mesmerised by her Rolls-Royce.
“The Queen Mum waved and looked at me, and I looked back at her and that was it. here and then I thought, I am going to be rich, famous, successful and drive a Rolls-Royce like her.” he said in conversation with the Mail on Sunday in 2014.
Of his own children he told the Mail: “I certainly don’t want to leave them trust funds that are albatrosses round their necks.”
The icon has six children: Joe Sumner, Fuchsia Katherine Sumner, Brigitte Michael Sumner, Jake Sumner, Eliot Paulina Sumner and Giacomo Sumner.
He added: “They have to work. All my kids know that and they rarely ask me for anything, which I really respect and appreciate.”
“Obviously, if they were in trouble I would help them, but I’ve never really had to do that.”
It is clear that Sting admires work ethic, as he wasn’t handed his wealth on a plate.
“People make assumptions, that they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth, but they have not been given a lot.”
Even if he was to leave money to his children, the star doesn’t suppose there will be much of it left.
In the interview, he made reference to his wife alongside the management of his 100-strong team.
He added: “I keep a community of people going. My crew, my band, my staff… it’s a corporation! Who runs it? Trudie!
“I told them there won’t be much money left because we are spending it! We have a lot of commitments. What comes in we spend, and there isn’t much left.”
“It’s no picnic at all being my child.”
