Star Wars Jedi: Survivor UK Sales up 30% On the Original; Hogwarts Legacy Back on Top Spot

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sold well in the United Kingdom, according to the official GfK sales data shared by GamesIndustry. Last week, the game debuted at the top of the UK charts and quickly became the second biggest launch of 2023 after Hogwarts Legacy but ahead of Resident Evil 4 and Dead Island 2.

At that time, GfK had only provided retail sales, which were estimated to be down by 35% compared to its predecessor, 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. However, digital sales are much stronger today than they were nearly four years ago, and GamesIndustry confirmed today that the overall sales of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in the United Kingdom were around 30% higher than the previous installment in the series.

It’s quite an impressive feat when you consider that the installed base of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in late 2019 was certainly a lot bigger than today’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.

Of course, word of mouth and game reviews might have helped. In Wccftech’s review, Kai Powell wrote:

While Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a surprise journey when it was first released, the time spent apart hasn’t made Cal Kestis’ adventures any less enjoyable. A similar framework in unfamiliar territories helps to establish Star Wars: Jedi: Survivor as a quality sequel to the original release. Jedi: Survivor still plays it safe in comparison to the prior game. It may be difficult to give it full marks for its individuality, but compared to the predecessor focused on Cal’s time as a Jedi Padawan, each title can stand up on its own merits, and Jedi: Survivor polishes up much of the experience as it propels the narrative ever forward on Cal Kestis’ journey to Tanalorr.

Performance issues may have tarnished the game’s reputation a bit (especially on PC, though GeForce RTX 40 owners can now take advantage of PureDark’s DLSS 3 mod to greatly improve frame rate), but from the looks of it, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is shaping as another success for Respawn.

This week’s UK chart sees the return to the top of Hogwarts Legacy. According to GamesIndustry, the game’s launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One wasn’t as big as the original debut on PC and newer consoles, but it still ranks as the fourth biggest launch of the year after Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Resident Evil 4.

As a reminder, the exceedingly popular game from Avalanche Software sold over a billion dollars in retail sales, with 15 million units as of March 31st (before the aforementioned PS4 and XB1 launch). With the Nintendo Switch version due to launch in late July, Warner Bros. has plenty of reasons to be positive about the game’s performance throughout the remainder of the year.
