Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Series Is Officially on the Way at Paramount+

CBS Studios and Paramount+ have formally announced Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, a new Star Trek series that will follow a new class of Starfleet cadets.

Production on the show is set to begin in 2024. In celebration of the series order, co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau released the following statement that gives a little bit of insight into what Starfleet Academy is all about:

“Admission is now open to Starfleet Academy! Explore the galaxy! Captain your destiny! For the first time in over a century, our campus will be re-opened to admit individuals a minimum of 16 Earth years (or species equivalent) who dream of exceeding their physical, mental and spiritual limits, who value friendship, camaraderie, honor and devotion to a cause greater than themselves.

“The coursework will be rigorous, the instructors among the brightest lights in their respective fields, and those accepted will live and study side-by-side with the most diverse population of students ever admitted. Today we encourage all who share our dreams, goals and values to join a new generation of visionary cadets as they take their first steps toward creating a bright future for us all. Apply today! Ex Astris, Scientia!”

Alongside Kurtzman and Landau, Absentia co-creator Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber will serve as executive producers on the series.

Starfleet Academy’s existence was reported last month, where we learned that Violo was involved with the series, and that Starfleet Academy would likely follow the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 spinoff.

Paramount+ has an expansive lineup of original Star Trek series, including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Paramount has been making a lot of announcements surrounding its Star Trek series as of late, as we recently learned that Star Trek: Discovery will end with Season 5, while Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks have both been renewed. Star Trek: Picard’s current season will mark the end the Next Generation follow-up series, and we recently sat down to speak with the cast of Picard about Season 3.
