Today, Paradox Interactive and Nimble Giant Entertainment (known for Quantum League) released the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming grand strategy game Star Trek Infinite, originally announced during the Summer Game Fest. According to the developers, Star Trek Infinite is built on the game systems seen in Stellaris, albeit streamlined and simplified to fit the IP.
Set decades before Star Trek: Next Generation, this grand strategy game puts players in the middle of the struggles between the most powerful factions of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants of the galaxy: the United Federation of Planets, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union, or the Klingon Empire.
Each faction has distinct playstyles, traits, stories, and quests. As the leader of your chosen faction, you will be able to decide whether to employ warfare, espionage, diplomacy, or any combination of the three in your dealings with the other factions.
Iconic characters such as Jean-Luc Picard may be recruited to be captains or officers. Similarly, players can expect to see iconic starships, like the Federation’s Intrepid- and Defiant-class ships, the Cardassian Galor-class vessels, the Romulan D’deridex, or the Klingon Negh’Var battleships.
Star Trek Infinite is targeting a PC launch at some point this Fall. The Steam page already includes the minimum and recommended system requirements.
