Spider-Man: Tom Holland ‘I burst into tears on set with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’

After months of speculation, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield really did show up for the multiverse mayhem of Spider-Man: No Way Home after all. When MCU Peter Parker Tom Holland heard the news he became extremely anxious about the changes that could take place. But little did he know it wouldn’t be long before the three bonded as an intimate Marvel brotherhood.

Holland, who was doing press for his new movie Uncharted admitted: “I was petrified when they were coming in because when you’ve played Spider-Man for so long, there’s only three people to have done it on the big screen. And you have a sense of ownership of the character. He feels like a part of you. And I was worried that these other two actors who have equal ownership to this character were going to come in and try and shake up the system and we had a really good thing going. And I’m delighted to say that they came in and all that they wanted to do was elevate the movie… It was so fun, because like I said, being Spider-Man can be quite alienating. It’s quite a strange experience. So to have two other people who you can share that experience with and talk to… was an incredible experience for me and they were like my big brothers. The scene in the film where we say goodbye to each other, that is based off something that actually happened naturally on set.”

As he said this, it wasn’t long before the MCU star was blubbing, which set off the other two as the three Spider-Man actors had tears streaming down their cheeks and shared in a long embrace.

The next thing they knew, the Spider-Man: No Way Home writers were watching on going, ‘Yep! That’s how it’s going to beeee… brilliant!’ and this genuine heartfelt moment between the star trio went on to inspire their fond farewell at the end of the movie.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is out now in cinemas and The Empire Film Podcast’s 500th episode can be listened to here.
