Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Will Explore the Prowler Variant of Miles

Spoiler Warning: There are major spoilers for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in this article, so if you haven’t watched the movie, turn back now.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is being called the “best Spider-Man movie to date” by some fans and there is a good reason for that. Apart from being a visual masterpiece, the Spider-Verse series has provided fans with a gripping plot that keeps them hooked right from the start to the very end. Imagine the surprise when many realized that Across the Spider-Verse ends on a cliffhanger.

At the end of Across the Spider-Verse, fans will remember that Miles successfully evades the mob of multi-versal Spideys and departs for his own universe. However, to everyone’s surprise, Miles lands up in a completely different universe, as he met the alternate universe’s Miles

So as the story goes, the Spider that bit Miles, was supposed to give powers to Peter Parker in the alternate Miles’ universe. But, as that did not happen, there was never a Spider-Man in this universe, which led to the death of alternate Miles’ father, Jefferson Davis. This traumatic event was enough to push Miles over the edge, which led him to become the Prowler of this universe, mentored by his uncle Aaron Davis.

Naturally, this has built a lot of intrigue for the character within the fandom, and recently, the co-director of the movie has shed some light on the subject too. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-director Kemp Powers revealed some interesting details about Across the Spider-Verse as well as the upcoming threequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Powers said that the “cliffhanger was pretty much in the cards for a long, long time.” Powers further stated that the team had one thing in mind while planning the end of the second movie, which was to end on a cliffhanger, but complete all the “emotional arcs for the main characters”, which are Miles and Gwen Stacy.

Furthermore, Powers talks about alternate Miles, stating that he is “such an exciting character” and it was hard to keep him a secret.

The character will be further explored in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which opens in theatres on March 29. 2024.
