Sony PlayStation 5 Beta Brings Discord Voice Chat Support; Nvidia Shares a Workaround Around the Chat App

A new beta update is introducing new features to the PlayStation 5, which includes Discord voice chat and Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p resolution. However, only invited beta participants from the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France will be able to try out these features for now.

In the newest beta, players can join Discord voice chats on the PS5 by linking their Discord and PlayStation Network accounts. The Discord app must be used on a mobile device or a computer to start a voice chat. Other features such as screen sharing, the ability to show what you are playing as well as the function to join games are also added.

The PS5 will also have support for Variable Refresh Rate at 1440p resolution for smoother visual performance with VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 displays. More HDMI displays will be supported as the console has received some changes to the parameters of its 1440p output test.

Discord bug on Nvidia GeForce cards gets a workaround

Nvidia has informed its GeForce graphic card users of a temporary fix that resolves a Discord bug. When using Discord, a bug causes a 200MHz reduction in memory speed. This is due to Discord triggering a “CUDA – Force P2 State” lower power state in the graphics driver. The issue was confirmed by multiple users online (via PCGamer). Although the memory clockspeed reduction is not much, it is still something that is unwanted. Nvidia published a knowledge base article with instructions on how to fix the bug through the GeForce 3D Profile Manager.
