Sonic Frontiers Sold Over 3 Million Units Worldwide

Sonic Frontiers is an effort that has managed to bring a renaissance of sorts for the blue hedgehog that has been having a bad streak of luck over the last few years. Thanks to the positive word of mouth from the gaming audiences, the title has managed to become one of the most popular installments in the franchise, gaining over 3 million sales worldwide and also becoming the bearer of more awards.

This information comes to us from SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog Japan account which posted a tweet celebrating the achievements that Sonic Frontiers has managed to get since the game’s release. According to the tweet, the game sold 3+ Million units worldwide and became the winner of the Future Category of the Japan Game Awards (2022) as well as receiving the highest award in the Action-Adventure category of the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards (2022).

Sonic Frontiers still has a long road ahead of it, as the game will also receive some future DLCs. Today, the game will receive one of those expansions, dubbed “Sights, Sound, and Speed.” This update adds the Jukebox, Challenge, and Photo Modes to the game, expanding the experience for Sonic Frontiers players even more than before with new ways to experience the game’s combat mechanics.

The Sonic Frontiers Sights, Sound, and Speed update will only be the first content drop for the game this year. A second update, which will go live on a yet-to-be-confirmed date, will celebrate Sonic’s birthday and bring an Open Zone challenge mode as well as a new Koco type. The third and final update for 2023 will introduce new playable characters and a new story.

While the game isn’t without its flaws, Sonic Frontiers is a solid open-world platform game and one of the best 3D entries in the series ever. The title certainly has managed to bring the Hedgehog back to the spotlight in the best possible way. Now, it’s a matter of keeping that momentum for not just the upcoming updates but also future adventures that the Hedgehog will take.
