TL;DR
- Images of what could be a Google Pixel Watch prototype have been posted on the internet.
- The device, which reportedly was left in a US restaurant, looks much like the previously leaked renders of the Pixel Watch.
- The wearable is rumored to make its first appearance at Google I/O in May 2022.
In an incident that seems a bit similar to the leak of the iPhone 4 prototype over 10 years ago, Android Central has posted images of what appears to be a Google Pixel Watch prototype. The photos come from an anonymous source, who claimed to have found the device in a restaurant somewhere in the US.
The device does appear to look very similar to previously leaked renders of the reported Pixel Watch. According to the anonymous source, the wearable also came with a box that stated that the device was for “internal testing and development only.” It also said that the “markings and packaging are not final.” That means the final product could have some differences compared to this reported prototype.
The photos of the black smartwatch seem to show at least one button next to the crown. The source said the watch’s rear face “looks metallic but feels like it’s coated with glass.” The person who left this prototype also left behind a blue watchband, which looks like it connects directly to the watch case.
There was apparently no charger left behind with this prototype, although it’s likely that the Pixel Watch will have a charging plate on the back case.
Earlier this week, Google applied for a trademark filing for a “Pixel Watch,” which, until this image leak, was the stronger evidence that the device was indeed on its way. Another report claimed that based on some Wear OS code, the watch could have a Samsung Exynos chipset inside. Google may officially announce the watch as part of its annual I/O 2022 developers conference, which begins on May 11.
