Side hustles can earn ‘£22,000 a year on top of main salary’

Ms Anderson sources and sells preloved and vintage clothing, homeware and furniture pieces and has recently launched a capsule collection of made-to-order co-ord clothing pieces.

She grew up shopping second-hand with various family members, whether it was at charity shops, antique shops or car boots, so it was a very natural business for her to start the business.

As the cost of living crisis continues, Britons are constantly looking for ways they can earn some extra cash.

Side hustle entrepreneurs can earn more than £22,000 a year on top of their main salary, new research reveals.

‌GoDaddy’s Venture Forward research reveals that three in five (58 percent) side hustlers set up their business for less than £500, with less than half (48 percent) taking just a few days to set up their ventures.

Ms Anderson urged anyone who may have a business idea to “just start”.

She said: “My self-employed salary now exceeds the salary I was earning at my old job as Head of Marketing for a creative agency.

“It was great to be able to earn extra money on the side when I was working and doing Pine& Treasure on the side. And to be honest it was a motivator to keep going and working so hard on both jobs.

“I’m not a big splurger/spender on materialistic things, as you can imagine with being addicted to second-hand shopping!

“So any extra money went to savings which helped us to move to a bigger house last year.”

‌Ms Anderson started Pine & Treasure to make a bit of extra money whilst she travelled around New Zealand, selling second-hand items through Instagram.

When she returned to the UK, she wanted to continue the business and expand online. The setting up of the business cost her £230.

‌Andrew Gradon, head of GoDaddy UK & Ireland, adds: “It has never been easier, or quicker to set up an online side hustle, and GoDaddy’s data shows the financial rewards can be significant.

“Technology has dramatically reduced the barriers to entry, giving entrepreneurs the tools to start and grow their businesses in no time at all.

“At GoDaddy, we are committed to helping everyday entrepreneurs feel confident in their business decisions, and have seen first-hand the success that many of our customers have had in starting their online side hustles.”

When asked what advice she would give to novice entrepreneurs, Ms Anderson said: “Just go for it.

“You can think about it too long or wait to start it perfectly, but time creeps up on you.

“I can’t believe Pine & Treasure is already four years old and I feel like I’ve got so much more to give with it.

“So even if it’s a side hustle you work on a few days a month, just start now!”
