Shoulder injury sidelines controversial Magpie
Controversial Collingwood midfielder Jordan de Goey will be out of action until the new year after undergoing surgery on his shoulder, the club has announced.
The 26-year-old battled a niggling injury through the back end of the 2022 season.
In a statement, the club said it initially wished to avoid surgery, but eventually conceded a “clean-up” was the better option.

He underwent a “minor arthroscope” on Monday morning.
“Jordan had been managing that right shoulder towards the end of our campaign and while we have given it every opportunity to settle over the off season, after consulting with a specialist in recent days, it was determined a clean-up is the best course of action for him,” Collingwood football general manager Graham Wright said.
The statement the Magpies expected he would return to training in January.
The surgery caps off a turbulent year for the young star, who re-signed with the club in September after turning down a move to St Kilda as a free agent.
In January, he faced court in New York over assault charges dating back to an October 2021 incident in a nightclub.
He was stood down by the club, but was reinstated by the end of the month. The AFL then forced the star to make a $10,000 donation to the Salvation Army.
Then in June, de Goey once again found himself in hot water after video emerged of an ill-advised trip to Bali during the club’s bye round.
The video caused the club to put his contract negotiations – worth a reported $3.2 million – on hold.
But by the end of the year, de Goey’s on-field form had returned and he was instrumental in the club’s surge up the ladder. He averaged 20 disposals across his 19 games and kicked 18 goals.
