Sharmila Tagore, the acclaimed actress, made a guest appearance at a recent event in Delhi, where she spoke about various aspects of her illustrious career. Her talk covered a range of topics, including her iconic bikini scene in the movie An Evening in Paris.
According to a report by a prominent news agency, Sharmila commented on her bikini scene, stating that although it generated a lot of controversy in the late 1960s, the swimsuit now appears quite innocent compared to what modern women wear.
Sharmila stated, “When I did An Evening In Paris, my bikini scene was shocking. The public, including the industry, was quite surprised. I believe there were questions asked in Parliament at that time. Although it looks very innocent now, compared to the kind of films we see today.”
“I remember there was a poster of the film on the road (near her home), and my mother-in-law was coming to town, so I got my driver to take down that poster in the middle of the night – not realising that there might be other posters on the way from the airport,” she added.
In the midst of their conversation, Sharmila Tagore addressed why she transitioned from glamorous roles to more serious cinema, explaining that there will always be someone more attractive than you in the room. Thus, she chose to focus on developing her acting abilities instead.
An Evening in Paris is a romantic thriller from 1967, helmed and produced by the renowned filmmaker Shakti Samanta. The story is set in the enchanting city of Paris and features Shammi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, and Pran in significant roles.
