Sea Eagles throw unemployed star a lifeline

The NRL future of Dylan Walker has been confirmed with Manly announcing a fresh one-year contract for the utility.

Walker, 27, had been technically unemployed since November 1 but has now inked a new deal with the Sea Eagles for season 2022.

It’s unknown if rival clubs had been keen on luring him away from Narrabeen but Walker has been well supported by the Sea Eagles – and coach Des Hasler – through a number of off-field incidents over the years.

He’s represented both Australia and NSW in the past, and won an NRL title with South Sydney in 2014.

Originally a centre at the Rabbitohs, Walker was thrown into a five-eighth role at Manly when he joined them in 2016 and spent years jumping between the two positions.

This year, though, he transformed himself into bench utility and found a new lease on the game playing as a ball-playing middle forward.

He’s played 163 NRL games to date.

“The ability to be able to play several positions in the game today is vital and Dylan plays an extremely important role within the team,” coach Des Hasler said in a statement.
