Scott McTominay has missed Manchester United’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid due to illness.
The 25-year-old has been a regular at the heart of United’s midfield this season with 29 appearances in all competitions so far.
McTominay also played in United’s 4-2 victory over Leeds on Sunday.
But the Scotland international has been left out of United’s squad for their first leg against Atletico in Spain.
‘He’s ill, unfortunately,’ said Rangnick.
‘I spoke with him this afternoon and he’s still not feeling well.
‘We had a little bit of hope that he might be available.
‘So we needed to find the best possible formation and line-up without Scott.’
Rangnick also revealed that McTominay is already an early doubt for United’s Premier League match against Watford on Saturday.
