GUNTUR: Sahiti Vasanthotsavam-cultural festival organized by Sahiti Samakhya to mark the celebration of Sobhakruth Ugadai has left the audience spellbound on Wednesday as the auditorium of Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandiram remained packed till midnight. It was night of poets, musicians, singers and painters, who exhibited their authority in their fields in the presence of stalwarts in various fields of art and culture. High Court judge, Justice DVSS Somayajulu, who attended as chief guest, felt his happiness about the way the festivities was organized on a grand note. He said that he was really thrilled to see the performances of the artistes. He said that he was particularly happy to see the packed hall as the presence of the guests reflects the richness of the Telugu culture, heritage and traditions.
Sahiti Samakhya president Dr DBSV Ramamoorthy presided over the session. Folk literature scholar Dr Bhaskara Yogi explained rare features of the vedic literature and folk literature. While famous playback singer Returi Gayatri sung a few devotional songs, noted artist Kuchi painted pictures describing the essence of the songs simultaneously. This fete left the guests and audience stumped.
The flow of poetry from Brihut Dwisatavadhani Bramhasri Madugula Nagaphani Sarma received applause from the gathering. Ghazal maestro Srinivas specially rendered a few songs to highlight the Ugadi festival.
Sahiti Samakhya general secretary SVS Lakshminarayana said that they were fortunate to have so many stalwarts as their guests on Sahiti Vasantotsavam. He said that almost all the top film directors, lyricists, music directors, writers, poets, dancers and authors accepted their invitation in the last 26 years as the festivities were being organized to spread the fragrance of the Telugu culture.
Noted orthopedic surgeon Dr AV Guravareddy left the auditorium in splits when recalled several humorous writings of legendary Telugu writers, Munimanikyam, Bhamidipati, Viswanatha Satyanarayana, Chilakamarthi Narasimham, Panuganti Lakshmi Narasimha Rao comparing his own experiences in medical profession.
Justice DVSS Somayajulu presented Sahiti Puraskaram award to renowned poet and literary critic Darbhasayanam Srinivasacharya and Aatmiya Puraskaram to author Dr BS Sarma. District Collector M Venugopala Reddy, Sahiti Samakhya secretary R Ramu, Red cross vice-president P Ramachandra Raju, several famous doctors and eminent citizens attended the cultural festival.
