Safa President lauds Sundowns ladies’ Champions League exploits
Newly crowned Caf Women’s Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns landed back to a packed and joyous O.R Tambo International airport on Sunday morning. The Brazilians beat Ghanaian outfit Hasacaas ladies 2-0 at 30 June Stadium on Friday, putting their names in the history books of African football by becoming the first team to win the inaugural continental women’s tournament.

And with Banyana having recently done well as well by winning the Aisha Buhari Cup held in Nigeria, South African Football Association President Danny Jordaan says Banyna Ba Style were bound to be victorious at the Champions League having also been impressive in the domestic league.
“In the back of our minds we knew our ladies would do it because from the word go, they looked the most complete side. The Hollywoodbets Super League, has done wonders in improving the standard of women’s football and more is to come,” said Jordaan.
“By finishing the entire tournament without conceding a goal shows the vast difference between our girls and the rest of the continent. They have set the bar and now need to maintain those lofty standards.
“Women’s football in SA has been growing in leaps and bounds and Banyana Banyana set the tone this year by winning the Aisha Buhari Cup, beating the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their backyard.”
